Hidden Provision

I've been really wanting to replace the carpet in my bedroom, hallway and stairs for a few years now. Every time I got close to saving up the money, something else came up to spend the money on instead. It's not like I spent it on emergencies, but on fun stuff like going on trips to Cuba and Washington DC.

Anyway, I finally got the money together and decided that now is the time to get this project done. We're inheriting a complete bedroom set, so it seemed like the right time to change the flooring since we have to move everything anyway.

I did my research to make sure I had enough money saved, picked out the new flooring, and had the company do the measurements. It seemed like everything was coming together until the sales person from the store sent me the quote. It was almost double what I had figured!

I was busy, so I just sat on it a couple days. Before many days had passed, I found myself on a longish drive to an appointment. This meant I had plenty of time to think. I was starting to get stressed about the whole situation (first world problem). Should I forget about replacing the flooring, only do part of the project, or what? I was committed to paying cash upfront, so financing wasn't an option.

Thankfully it wasn't too long before I caught myself losing my peace and decided to ask God about it. I told the Lord that I needed Him. I told Him that I needed His wisdom and help, and that I know He really loves me and wants to give me my heart's desires. Then I decided to stop thinking about the situation and move on with my day. My peace was back!

God is so good. Within a couple hours I received an email from the sales person apologizing that they had done their figures incorrectly! Wow!

I had been hoping to pick up some extra work to make up for the discrepancy, but when it came down to it, I actually already had all that I needed.

I wonder how many times in our lives we stress about things that we think we need, when we actually already have them.

  1. It made God seem more real to me; like I can talk to Him more freely than before.

  6. It reminded me that I can do anything when I'm with Him.
  7. It made me impatient to get to heaven.

I enjoyed this movie so much, that I went to see it a second time. I hope that you go see it too!

Did you already see the movie?

I'd love to hear what you would add to my list!

That Time When God Became A Man

I have been gripped this Christmas season by the amazing fact that God turned Himself into a human. Wow! That's earth-shatteringly vulnerable.

I'm sharing this worship video today because this song has been touching me so deeply the past couple weeks. I don't believe this song was meant to be a Christmas song, but I do believe it sums up what Christmas is truly all about. Come, let's adore Him together!

Onething Live / Justin Rizzo - There is one found worthy, from the album Onething Live Magnificent Obsession by IHOP in 2012

He was born to die because God wanted you so much. Merry Christmas!

Cause It's the Law!

Do you remember being a kid and fighting with your siblings or friends about who was in charge? Arrogant statements like these would fly everywhere:

  • Because I'm the boss of you!
  • Because I said so.
  • Because I'm bigger and older and smarter, and we're doing things my way, or I quit!

Have you ever tried to take this approach with God? It seems to be rampant in our culture.

  • No moral absolutes!
  • I get to believe whatever I want, and the rest of the world has to suck it up and be happy about it.

Can this really be the path to peace? Can your heart truly be at rest when you break God's laws?

Let's take a quick look at Psalm 19.

"The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul" (Psalm 19:7a)

Take a deep breath and soak that one in......

Can your soul be restored by obedience to the King?

Or was He just kidding?

"The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple" (vs.7b)

Can your mind be enhanced simply by trusting that He is honest?

"The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart" (vs. 8a)

Can you shake off depression by knowing what His rules are?

"The commandment of the Lord is PURE....enlightening the eyes" (vs. 8b)

Can your face shine radiantly because you make the right choice?

"The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever" (vs. 9a)

Can you live clean forever?

"The judgments of the Lord are true; they are righteous altogether" (vs.9b)

Can you be righteous through and through?

"More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold, sweeter also than the honey, and the honeycomb."(vs. 10)

Can a law really be a delight? Can obeying a rule be better than having piles of money or the best cuisine in the world?

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. (vs.14)

Maybe God's law really is the High way.  Could it be that He really is bigger and older and smarter than us?!

Have You Had Your Reality Shifting Moment?

Do you remember that moment as a child when you realized that the whole world doesn't revolve around you? I remember a distinct moment when it dawned on me that every other person on the planet had all of their very own thoughts and feelings. I can't really remember how old I was when it happened to me, but I do remember that it blew my mind. I still have moments where that concept hits me all over again and the magnitude of it stuns me.

Then there comes the moment when it hits me that not only does the world not revolve around me, it actually revolves around a Supreme Being.

This morning the old song I Exalt Thee was stuck in my head. You might be familiar with the chorus:

I Exalt Thee, I Exalt Thee, I Exalt Thee, Oh Lord

The part of the song that I like the most is the verse:

For Thou Oh Lord Art High, Above All the Earth

Thou Art Exalted Far Above All gods

As I soaked in that verse, I was overwhelmed with the reality that God is so far above all of our earthly concerns. He is so far above all other gods, idols, and demonic strategies. Nothing can ever make Him worry. He is mind blowing!

Action point: Take some time to look up to Him and remember that He is so much better than you could ever grasp.

For You are the LORD Most High over all the earth; You are exalted far above all gods. Ps. 97:9

Are You Sick of Bad News?

I Want to Be A Tree Part 5 of 6

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,

Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

Psalm 1:5

There is coming “A Day.” None of us know which moment will be our last. After we die, each one of us will stand before God alone. We will not have a friend or spouse standing with us for moral support. We will not be able to cast blame for our life’s choices on any other person.

If you are in Christ, you will have Him standing with you, and He will be your Way into your heavenly home.

Psalm 1:5 speaks of people who are NOT in Christ.

  • Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgement, When that final day comes, unbelievers will not be able to enter God’s throne room with their heads held high.
  • Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. When we are all gathered into our heavenly home, those who have rejected Christ will not be able to join with us.

It is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment. Hebrews 9:27

If you have not surrendered your whole life to Christ, please to do it right now! Give Him every single part of your life. He knows how to take care of you much better than you ever could take care of yourself.

Once you are in Christ, you can live with a completely clean conscience. Jesus made the way for you to be able to hold your head high and have complete confidence as you get to know your heavenly Father intimately.

Jesus' blood changes everything. When you've been washed clean by it, you never have to live under a cloud of guilt again. This is the Good News!

The Ultimate Surprise

Those who know me well, know that I do not really care for surprises. I like to make a plan and work the plan. I like to be prepared. Apparently God doesn't really concern Himself with how I feel about surprises.

He is the Ultimate Surprise. We never know when He is going to show up in the last way we would expect Him to.

God can move anytime He wants and in any way He wants. He is not limited by our prophetic words or our imaginations about what the future will look like.

In John chapter 21 we read about how the disciples were fishing all night but caught nothing. Jesus came along and told them to cast their net on the other side of the boat. That was when they received a great surprise: so many fish they could not haul the net in.

Jesus' fishing strategy was not anything they would have ever normally thought to do.  He always has a plan that is completely out of our box.

It can be easy to get discouraged when we don't see things happening the way we imagined that they would.

That is when we can stop and ask Him what His idea is.

God is the Ultimate Surprise and Ultimate Strategist all wrapped up in one!
